      That’s a great question, and there is a lot of research ongoing in this area. In many cases we still don’t know! One study I carried out found that macaques respond differently to aggression in captivity – when space is restricted a macaque that has been attacked will approach the attacker to reconcile afterwards, but in the wild they will avoid aggressors. It’s likely that there are many differences we haven’t discovered yet.
