Depends on when you start to count! I started my undergraduate degree in 2008 and finished my PhD in 2016 after my PhD I was able to take the job that I’ve got now as a full-time post-doctoral researcher. So that’s almost 8 years! That’s not the end yet, though: I’m not quite ready to start my own research group, for that I need either funding or a permanent position at a university. I think I’ll have to wait another few years to get there. Sounds probably like a long time but it was honestly fun for the vast majority of the time!
