To add to Sophie’s comment, there is also work being done on rodents and primates to try and better understand how the technique works. We have a reasonable idea, but it is very complicated. A better understanding would allow us to improve the technique both as a research tool and potentially as a therapeutic tool. For example, one idea is that it might be used alongside traditional rehabilitation from stroke to try and improve recovery.
