• Question: Why did you choose to become a scientist?

      For me, I chose to do research because I wanted to learn more about autism, and work towards helping children. The research we do is helping to design a robot-based intervention and I love that I get to work with young people and hopefully contribute to an effective intervention that could be used in schools.

      Quite simply it was what i enjoyed most, and in further education being able to define my interest to biology and animals made me even happier. So my choice was made easy for me, I’d say always pursue what you enjoy!

    I don’t think I did choose to become a scientist. But I chose to study linguistics (which is the science of how language works, and what people do with it). I didn’t really know it was a science, to start with, but it soon became clear that using science in linguistics was the best way to find stuff out in it and be sure that what you found was true. So I would say that I chose to study what interested me, and then I found that science was useful for that, but I didn’t choose it BECAUSE it was science, if that makes sense. I didn’t even do Biology, Chemistry and Physics until the end of school–I stopped after Year 11.
