I get to do research on questions I’m really interested in, which means even the more routine bits of the job are never boring. I’ve had other jobs, so I know how rare that is!
The interviews. I study people’s accents, so I have to go and record interviews with them, then I bring them home and analyse the accents with a computer. But the interviews themselves are the cool thing. One time I got to drive a million-pound lifeboat while I was interviewing someone!
I don’t really have a favourite thing — I think the thing I like best is how varied my job is. I get to read, write, think, meet other scientists, talk, collect data, do statistical analysis — and talk to members of the public, like you guys! Like Catriona, I also enjoy the fact that I’m always working on things I find interesting, so even the more boring bits don’t feel so bad!
