I normally try to not work beyond a 9-5 day, as i like to see my family! But I do sometimes need to get extra time in at the weekends or evenings.

If my project team is not running a school study, I am usually in the office (on average) from around 10 to around 7, plus all the e-mails I have done and papers read on the train into and home from London, and teaching prep in the evenings (if I am teaching that term), and extra time on the weekend to finish the most important things left undone during the week. My boss is in Australia so there are also sometimes Skype meetings at strange times of the day or night…!

It depends on the stage of the programme I’m making. At the beginning I tend to work 10-7pm-ish. As filming and editing approaches the days get longer and longer! Filming days in foreign countries can be very long, 15 hours or more. But the time flies by as there’s always so much to do.

I try to stick to a 9-5 pattern, but also need to do extra work some days, especially if I’m writing some research up.
