• Question: How did you get your job?

      After I studied in university for 4 years and during the very end of my PhD the position that I am currently working on opened. I applied for it and I was very happy to be accepted.

      The process is very similar to any job (CV, job interview, etc.) with the only difference being that a PhD is normally* required for a research job.

      *I say normally, but relevant experience in science could be fine for some research jobs.

      I completed a degree in Psychology and then a masters in Research in Clinical Psychology. I worked in a mental health service working with children and young people, and also in a school with autistic individuals. I was eager to gain a research post to continue learning, and came across one for UCL. I applied and a few months later was offered an interview. It was a very short interview around 25mins long and I thought it was the worst interview I had ever done! They called me that day and offered me the job.

      Rather boringly, i found my job online. It was on the direct.gov website, there are a few really good sites that allow you to search for specific roles. I typed in words like ‘Animal’ and ‘conservation’ and was pleasantly surprised at how many jobs there were out there that fitted.
