• Question: did u like science when you were at school our did u discover your talent later on in life I have liked science since y6 when my teacher told us about Isaac newton which inspired me to try and find new things about the world

      The first time I realised I really liked science was in Y6 too. We learnt about photosynthesis and why plants were green and it just blew my mind! It wasn’t until a bit later on, in secondary school, when I started getting really inspired by things I’d read. I read a lot of popular science books and science fiction too. I loved the idea that lots of current technology applications were started off as something someone imagined in a book once.

      yes, I enjoyed sciences because it helped me make sense of the world around me

      I always enjoyed science, but for a long time I wanted to be a musician, so I spent most of my time practising the clarinet and piano and thinking about music! It wasn’t until I was at university that I started to think more about sound perception and the psychology of music, and that’s how I ended up being a psychologist! I think it’s great that people enjoy science when they’re young, but I also think that it’s never too late to decide to study it!

      I did quite like biology, chemistry and physics when I was at school–but I liked languages more, so I did French, Spanish, Latin and Greek instead. Later, I chose to study linguistics (which is the science of how language works, and what people do with it), but I didn’t really know it was a science, to start with. It soon became clear, though, that using science in linguistics was the best way to find stuff out and be sure that what you found was true. So I would say that I chose to study what interested me, and then I found that science was useful for that, but I didn’t choose it BECAUSE it was science, if that makes sense. I didn’t even do Biology, Chemistry and Physics until the end of school–I stopped after Year 11.

      Yes, I really liked science when I was at school, I really enjoyed biology, chemistry, maths and physics, I also enjoyed psychology and law. Geography and history were not part of my favourite topics. Overall, I must say that I have always liked school and I was lucky enough to have very good teachers and I have always loved learning new things, that’s true even now, so school was a great place for that reason.

    I did like science when I was at school. But not enough to do Biology, Chemistry or Physics beyond Year 11! I did Chemistry and Physics until Y11, then stopped. In Year 12 and 13 I did French, Spanish, Latin and Ancient Greek!

    Then, when I was at university studying French and Latin, I discovered that there was this other science that I hadn’t known about at all before, called linguistics–and that’s what I study now. It’s the science of how language works and how people use it. I was hooked from then on. But it took me until I was 19 to even know that linguistics existed!
